Summary
Where negative is positive With short indices, investors who expect negative performance from certain markets or regions have strategic index products which allow them to transfer a downtrend into a profitable investment strategy. With the DAXglobal® Short Indices, Deutsche Börse calculates strategy indices which are inversely linked to the movements of the respective long index, i.e. they track performance as against the previous day with a leverage factor of minus 1. So negative development in the long index means positive development in the short version – and vice versa. DAXglobal® short indices are calculated for the up-and-coming markets of Brazil, China, India and Russia, and, in the DAXglobal® Asia for all Asian markets (except Japan) and for the “Emerging 11” (Egypt, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Turkey and Vietnam). In addition to inverse DAXglobal® share price performance, the indices also contain interest payments resulting from the investment strategy in twice the amount of the overnight rate. This is because interest accrues in the same amount for the investment volume as well as for the funds received from short-selling. This additional income makes an investment in DAXglobal® Short Indices an attractive investment, as they generate returns in both falling and sideways markets.
