The Deka STOXX Future Water ESG UCITS ETF (ISIN: DE000ETFL656) was listed today on Deutsche Börse Xetra and tracks the STOXX® Future Water ESG index. The STOXX index strategy employs a distinct revenue- and patent-based selection methodology to identify leading companies involved in water management, including sourcing and treatment, and in related technological innovation around the resource.
Water scarcity, observers contend represents a growing global challenge, with a serious threat to human health, economic development, and environmental resilience.1 Population growth, industrialization, and climate change are key factors exacerbating the issue. As global attention turns to addressing this challenge, companies that help provide secure, sustainable, and affordable water have a crucial role to play. Investment in these technologies is expected to grow as water management becomes a strategic priority, water management proponents contend.
To support the index strategy, STOXX has partnered with EconSight2, whose patents database and classification system help source companies through their intellectual property in technologies linked to investable themes. While companies’ revenues help identify key players in the theme, the patents-based approach provides a sharper focus when selecting innovators. As such, the Deka STOXX Future Water ESG UCITS ETF enables investors to invest in both key suppliers as well as companies with breakthrough technology in a field that is set to grow in importance in coming years.
“The STOXX Future Water ESG Index demonstrates how STOXX leverages advanced datasets and cutting-edge technology to capture innovation within investable themes. In this case, it helps investors identify companies with the potential to make a meaningful impact on global water sustainability.”
– Axel Lomholt, General Manager, STOXX
“Water is one of the most valuable and scarce resources of our time. With the Deka STOXX Future Water ESG UCITS ETF, we enable investors to participate in the opportunities offered by this future-oriented theme while also taking sustainable investment criteria into account.”
– Thomas Pohlmann, Head of ETF Product Management, Deka
