EURO STOXX^® Small ESG-X

The iSTOXX APG Emerging Markets Responsible Indices are a series of indices designed to track and quantify the impact of different ESG, Carbon and SDI constraints and tilts on a broad emerging global market cap index. The weighting of each constituent security is determined through an optimization process that is designed to minimize tracking error to the benchmark while improving the ESG, Carbon and SDI exposures.

The STOXX Benchmark ESG-X Indices are based on a selection of STOXX Benchmark Indices and apply standardized ESG exclusion screens. The screens are based on the responsible policies of leading asset owners and aim to reduce reputational and idiosyncratic risks.

STOXX excludes companies that ISS ESG considers to be non-compliant with its Norms-based research, that are involved in controversial weapons or severe controversies, are tobacco producers, or that either derive revenues from thermal coal extraction or exploration, or have power generation capacity that utilizes thermal coal.

STOXX Benchmark ESG-X Indices are suitable as underlying indices for mandates, passive funds, ETFs, structured products and listed derivatives, with the ambition to increase liquidity and lower the cost of trading.

This index applies screens in alignment with the ESMA guidelines on funds’ names using ESG or sustainability-related terms, which include controversial weapons, Tobacco, Coal (>1%), Oil fuels (>10%), Gaseous fuels (>50%/ Power generation), UNGC principles / OECD guidelines.Per the ESMA guidelines on funds’ names using ESG or sustainability-related terms, this index meets an 80% threshold linked to the proportion of investments used to meet environmental or social characteristic or sustainable investment objectives in accordance with the binding elements of the investment strategy.

The STOXX SRI (Socially Responsible Investing) Indices, track the performance of a selection of STOXX Indices after a set of emission intensity, compliance, involvement and ESG performance screens are applied.

Companies that rank in the highest 10% in terms of their emission intensities are not eligible for selection. Companies that are non-compliant based on ISS ESG's Norms-based screening, ESG scores and ESG Controversies, or are involved in Controversial Weapons are not eligible for selection. Exclusion filters are applied, screening companies for compliance based on Tobacco, Alcohol, Adult Entertainment, Gambling, Weapons, Nuclear Power, Coal, Oil & Gas and Energy production. The remaining securities are ranked in descending order of their ESG scores within each of the 11 ICB Industry groups. The STOXX SRI Indices select the top-ranking securities in each of the ICB Industries until the number of selected securities reaches a third of the number of securities in the underlying index.

The EURO iSTOXX Ocean Care 40 NR Decrement 3.5% Index replicates the performance of the net return version of the EURO iSTOXX Ocean Care 40 Index assuming a constant 3.5% performance deduction per annum. The performance deduction accrues constantly on a daily basis.

STOXX ESG Target TE Indices aim to provide a low tracking error to the benchmark index while ensuring an improved ESG score. The weighting of each constituent security is determined through an optimization process that is designed to ensure diversification and uses Axioma's Risk Model and Optimizer to construct the indices. Companies that are non-compliant based on the ISS ESG’ Norms-based research assessment or are involved in controversial weapons are not eligible for selection. Additional exclusion filters are applied, screening companies for involvement in tobacco production and distribution, thermal coal extraction and power generation, small arms manufacturing, military contracting, unconventional oil and gas exploration and production, high ESG risk, and ESG controversies.

This index applies screens in alignment with the ESMA guidelines on funds’ names using ESG or sustainability-related terms, which include controversial weapons, Tobacco, Coal (>1%), Oil fuels (>10%), Gaseous fuels (>50%/ Power generation), UNGC principles / OECD guidelines.
