STOXX ESG Target indices aim to provide a strong ESG tilt to the benchmark index while maintaining low tracking error of the benchmark index. The weight of each constituent security is determined through an optimization process that is designed to ensure diversification and uses Axioma's Risk Models and Optimizer. Companies that are non-compliant based on the ISS ESG’ Norms-based research assessment or are involved in controversial weapons are not eligible for selection. Additional exclusion filters are applied, screening companies for involvement in tobacco production and distribution, thermal coal extraction and power generation, small arms manufacturing, military contracting, unconventional oil and gas exploration and production, high ESG risk, and ESG controversies.

This index applies screens in alignment with the ESMA guidelines on funds’ names using ESG or sustainability-related terms, which include controversial weapons, Tobacco, Coal (>1%), Oil fuels (>10%), Gaseous fuels (>50%/ Power generation), UNGC principles / OECD guidelines.

The iSTOXX MUTB Japan Paris Aligned Index is designed to help investors shift towards a low-carbon economy. They are based on liquid securities selection form its parent index, STOXX Japan 600. Companies identified as non-compliant according to their Global Standards Screening (GSS) assessment or that are involved in Very Severe ESG Controversies or Controversial Weapons or Tobacco Production, are not eligible for selection. Securities that generate revenues above a certain threshold from coal, oil and gas exploration or processing activities, or from fossil fuel-based power generation are not considered for selection. Furthermore, companies that ISS ESG assesses to have Significant Obstruction in the UN SDGs 12,13,14 and 15 are excluded from the selection universe. The weighing process follows an optimization model that minimizes its exposure to a risk score consisting of four sustainable terms subject to constraints.

The STOXX SRI (Socially Responsible Investing) Indices, track the performance of a selection of STOXX Indices after a set of emission intensity, compliance, involvement and ESG performance screens are applied.

 

Companies that rank in the highest 10% in terms of their emission intensities are not eligible for selection. Companies that are non-compliant based on ISS ESG's Norms-based screening, ESG scores and ESG Controversies, or are involved in Controversial Weapons are not eligible for selection. Exclusion filters are applied, screening companies for compliance based on Tobacco, Alcohol, Adult Entertainment, Gambling, Weapons, Nuclear Power, Coal, Oil & Gas and Energy production. The remaining securities are ranked in descending order of their ESG scores within each of the 11 ICB Industry groups. The STOXX SRI Indices select the top-ranking securities in each of the ICB Industries until the number of selected securities reaches a third of the number of securities in the underlying index.

The iSTOXX US Family Owned ESG Company index tracks the performance of the largest US stocks that are classified as family-owned by the Centre of Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership (CeFEO). Companies that are non-compliant based on the ISS-ESG Norms Based Screening assessment or are involved in Controversial Weapons are not eligible for selection. Additional exclusion filters are applied, screening companies for involvement in Tobacco, Thermal Coal, Gambling, Pornography, Civilian Firearms, and Military Contracting. Companies that are non-compliant based on the ISS-ESG Norms Based Screening assessment or are involved in Controversial Weapons are not eligible for selection. Additional exclusion filters are applied, screening companies for involvement in Tobacco, Thermal Coal, Gambling, Pornography , Civilian Firearms, and Military Contracting.
